Thanks to all you theatre people!
‘The Crucifixion of Madeline McKay’ went ahead this week. Hearing my words fall from the mouths of others was a wonderful, slightly surreal, experience. It was fantastic fun and I feel a serious addiction coming on!
Still, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that a lot of my friends & family couldn’t see the performance. London is a long way off when you’re either glued to work or being crushed under interest rates. I’ve decided to make it my mission to find somewhere here in Manchester to take the play and as the director & cast are willing to come up and brave the rain, we just need a venue. If anyone knows of somewhere willing to take risks then please drop me a mail. (Maybe I should plead for a brave playhouse to take us on while on the radio tomorrow? I would hate to think we Manc’s have lost our nerve)
Anyway, I can’t sign off without thanking a few people. Firstly there is Lennie Varvarides. The enigmatic whirlwind of creativity and founder of Missfit Productions. I have learnt monumental lessons from her motto ‘nothing happens until you push’ which is very true in the art world. Waiting for permission to create is foolish. Create first, ask for permission never. If you happen to be dyslexic and creative, check out her site, send her something, being open-minded & courageous she might just snap up your work.
I want to thank Steve Harris. His vision was so closely linked to my own we could have been using telepathy. He is a gutsy director with vision, spark, and oodles of talent. He can be contacted via www.steveharrisdirector.com/
The cast were suburb too. They kept the tension high, maintained the realism, and remained crisp, lively, & entertaining throughout. Beverley who played Madeline gave he goosebumps, her presence is awesome, her anger palpable…check out her site here www.beverleyeve.moonfruit.com/
Louise Jackson was simply wonderful, her depiction of the overwhelmed and a times confused therapist was moving and deeply engaging, check out her contact details here….www.uk.castingcallpro.com/view.php?uid=69599
I also want to give a huge shout out to John Daniel Smith, (aka Johnny Malkavius). He is the artist/writer based in the U.S. who very kindly donated the use of his artwork ‘I, Eurotophobia’ for my promo poster. Cheers Johnny! Everyone should check out his work at www.johnnymalkavius.deviantart.com
John is a self-taught master manipulator of images, his eye for the unusual and down-right unsettling is what attracted my attention. He is the Stephen King of the digital imaging world and I’m proud to be associated with his work. Not one for bigging up his work, and avoiding anything vaguely pretentious or artsy he is something of an anomaly among artists, making him all the more special. Like me, he is a fan of anything fanciful, from fairies, dragons, knights, and wicked witches, and also like me has worked in a startling array of character building venues & jobs. If you wish to contact him regarding the use of pre-existing work, or commissioning something more personalized you can contact him on Johnnymalkavius@aol.com
I also want to thank Nick Barton, a generous and talented graphic designer who saved my skin by adapting ‘I, Eurotophobia’. Nick currently resides in Levenshulme with his wonderful, loving family. He’s been in the print industry for almost 10 years and still loves it. His projects have ranged from product catalogues to charity newsletters. If anyone wants his services as a consultant for print layout or design you can contact him via bartonstig@hotmail.co.uk.
Well, there’s not much left to say apart from there’s two weeks left to go for the festival, so if you can, check it out!
